Captain’s Challenges and Rules
Four Man Teams:
- Partners will rotate so you will have 3 different partners over the course of the weekend (2 events with each partner to be determined by team captain.)
Captain Information
- Captains will be given a form to fill out for their weekend’s pairings prior to Friday night or on Friday night. Each captain must turn in their pairings for each event as well as note which team is pairing A or pairing B for bracketing/grouping purposes. There will be 3 Captain’s Challenges involving 4 total participants. Each team member must compete in one Captain’s Challenge. Captain’s Challenges include:
- Darts (1 player) – diddle for the middle
- Euchre (1 player ) – a game of Scat where each player has only two coins; no honor
- Golf (2 players) – one player from each golf pairing must participate and these players cannot have participated in the darts or euchre challenges.
Event Information
Bowling:
- There will be a Russian roulette style draw where each captain silently offers one pairing for lane A and one pairing for lane B. From there, the lowest score from each lane drops (not lowest overall) and plays the 7th and 8th place consolation. The remaining 6 pairings continue on their current lane and the lowest team from each pair is dropped for consolation matches until the two remaining teams bowl for the championship. Once the groups are lanes are determined, all other bowling rules used in year’s past would apply.
Darts:
- There will be a Russian roulette style draw where each captain silently offers one pairing for the top half of a bracket and one pairing for the bottom half of a bracket. A Captain’s Challenge would be used to have one individual player from each team diddle for the middle. The diddle winner sets the pairings in the top half of the bracket and the second place diddler (is that a word?) sets the pairings in the bottom half of the bracket. From there the brackets play out like typical darts tournaments with best of 3 in the winner’s bracket and best of 1 in the loser’s bracket. All other dart rules used in year’s past would apply.
Note: No two pairings from the same team can meet each other in the first round of the winner’s bracket or first round of the loser’s bracket.
Horseshoes:
- A round robin format with 11 point games in the round robin and 15 point games in the playoffs will be used. Playoffs would be for teams seeded 1-4 based on round robin records and points. Teams finishing 5-8 will be assigned 5th – 8th place points accordingly. All other horseshoe rules and tiebreakers used in year’s past would apply.
Croquet:
- There will be a Russian roulette style draw where each captain silently offers one pairing for group A and one pairing for group B. From there, the last pairing to finish from each group drops and plays the 7th and 8th place consolation. The remaining 6 pairings continue in their current groups and the lowest team from each pair is dropped for consolation matches until the two remaining teams play for the championship. Once the groups are determined, all other croquet rules used in year’s past would apply.
Euchre:
- There will be a Russian roulette style draw where each captain silently offers one pairing for the top half of a bracket and one pairing for the bottom half of a bracket. A Captain’s Challenge would be used to have one individual player from each team play a game of Scat. The winner of Scat sets the top half of the Euchre bracket and the second place Scat finisher sets the bottom half of the bracket. From there the brackets play out like typical Euchre tournaments with best of 3 in the winner’s bracket and best of 1 in the loser’s bracket. All other Euchre rules used in year’s past would apply.
Note: No two pairings from the same team can meet each other in the first round of the winner’s bracket or first round of the loser’s bracket.
Golf:
- Golf will take on a new format this year with hopes of aligning it more with the round-robin/playoff style format of horseshoes. It will also allow us to use regular event scoring rather than match play point distribution. Golf will be stroke play on the front nine with each pairing playing alongside a pairing from another team. Front 9 pairings can be randomly selected but each foursome should have at least one Original Dookie. After nine holes are finished, each pairing will turn in their scorecard and be placed 1-8 based on their finish of the front nine stroke play portion of the event. Any ties needing broken will be decided by the tiebreaker ranking assigned after the Captain’s Challenge at Dookie Ranch on Saturday. Once the pairings are seeded 1-8 based on their 9-hole stroke play finish, the pairings seeded 1-4 will be placed into the winner’s bracket while the pairing seeded 5-8 will be placed into the loser’s bracket. On the back nine, each pairing will play a 3-hole match play match against each team in the winner’s or loser’s bracket, depending upon where they are seeded. Match play matches will be played on holes 10-12, 13-15, and 16-18. Each hole is worth ½ point with halved holes awarding ¼ point to each team (no carryovers!) At the conclusion of hole 18, each pairing will again turn in a scorecard and places 1-4 will be determined by most match play points won by each pairing on the back nine (no head-to-head scoring or tiebreakers.) Similarly, places 5-8 will be determined by most match play points won by each pairing on the back nine (no head-to-head scoring or tiebreakers.) Any ties needing broken will be decided by the tiebreaker ranking assigned after the Captain’s Challenge at Dookie Ranch on Saturday. The team finishing in first place for golf will be awarded 9 points, second place will be awarded 7 points, etc.
Note: The Captain’s Challenge will again take place at Dookie Ranch on Saturday afternoon (aka the chipping challenge.) One member from each golf pairing must chip for each team (a total of 8 participants.) Each player will chip 3 balls toward a target specified on Saturday. After all 24 balls are chipped we will measure for the player closest to the target or the target’s center (if a circle is the target.) The closest player will be seeded #1 for all golf tiebreakers, the second closest player will be seeded #2 for all golf tiebreakers, etc.
