2014 Dookie Letter
Ok boys,
‘tis the season
I know it’s cold and mostly miserable up there, but it’s time to look ahead
(instead of west to Metcalf or south to me because it is BEAUTIFUL where we live…sucka’s).
The LEGEND OF SNOOPY fully represented the ghost of the little white puffball last year when we kicked the ANCESTORS OF ODIN in their cold little Viking balls.
And once again, Metcalf failed to get his name on the cup…hahaha.
But in all seriousness, great times were had by all.
We got new t-shirts and new polo’s. We found a new home for darts (an old home, for those that have been around long enough). We instituted a universally lauded intermission competition with “captain’s challenges.” No steaks were killed on the grill this year (finally!!). No one was struck by flying golf balls from our “ever-patient” following group at Oak Lake. And most importantly: NO WICKETS WERE MOVED!!!
The Dookie Cup has finally risen to the status that we all hold it in, with the addition of a shiny new plinth. A true icon, in the lineage of the Stanley Cup, Claret Jug and Lombardi trophy.
The team format, though, was the crowning achievement of our 15-year anniversary tournament.
8 versus 8, in pairs of two. With each set of partners competing in captain’s challenges as well.
It was a welcome change in a competition that is ever-evolving.
And in that vein, we’ll tweak “the Dookie Tournament 16,” to make this the best competition to date.
This year, we’ll have 4 groups of 4, competing for their names on our glorious Dookie Cup.
Each captain will set up his team with utmost thought, as we will have different partners for each event AND have limitations for captain’s challenges.
So, even moreso than last, this year’s “Ryder’s Cup” style will test the mental meddle of each anchor.
Though, we did hear the laments of many concerning horseshoes. This year, we will bring back the round robin style, so that each set of partners will have a chance to face everyone. As we know, in other events, you may not face every other team, but it’s important for us to have contact against EVERYONE tossing those little metal shoes.
Other than that, it’ll be very similar to last year. Team versus team. There will be some captain’s challenges, but not one for every event. We will be doing a round robin in horseshoes. And we will switch groupings at the turn for golf again, as well.
Trends:
This new format put an end to nearly all of our current trends, with Rorge winning darts for the second year in a row as our ONLY defending event champion.
We will be providing beer on Friday at Nesbit’s Lanes AND at Peanut’s (or whatever it’s called now) Bar. As usual, we will also get pizza at the lanes and we will attempt to get more pizza at the bar or have them open their kitchen for us. Everyone will be expected to provide their own hard alcohol (or other intoxicants).
We will be supplying everything that you need for Saturday (food & beer wise….prostitutes are NOT included this year).
And there is ALWAYS beer, water and gator-aid for anyone with a cooler to take from the Hare house to Oak Lake golf course, as well as bacon, eggs & toast to get you started (so please show up and hour BEFORE tee time to carb up).
Then, of course, the last of the food will be cooked and beer drank as we finish euchre after golf.
…I think this year, EVERYONE should plan on being there, because with this 4 teams of 4 format, it will SURELY come down to this last event to decide the CHAMPIONS.
Dookie XVI will be held on July 11th 12th and 13th 2014
The RSVP will remain the same at $250.
The bank is near empty from the plinth, shirts and rise in cost of groceries/meat.
We will, once again, look into getting t-shirts for each team. Please consult with your teammates as to your color combination preferences, and give us your shirt sizes. And, if you’d like, a team name.
TEAMS:
Beiter, Metcalf, Hare, Ruggieri
Fortuna, Oakes, O’Toole, J Henry
Kane, Collins, Erlich, Bowser
Artascos, Mckallip, G Henry, McQuade
Looking forward to those feelings we ALL get on Friday evening, as we’re all pulling into Nesbit’s lanes weary from a long week of work and a long year without Dookie. Smiles and hugs and the anticipation of good times to come.
In the bond of the Dookie Brotherhood,
…keep practicing your drinkin’
