2019 Dookie Rules

General Information

Four Man Teams:

  • Partners will remain constant throughout the weekend. Each captain shall assign two pairings from their team of four and those pairings will be partners for all six events.
  • We will no longer have same team pairings (aka blood matches) playing one another for the round robin events (horseshoes, croquet, bocce.) Round robin records will be based on six matches, not seven.

Captain Information

  • Captains will be given a form to fill out for their weekend’s pairings. This form must be sent back to Ryan no later than Monday, July 1st.  Each captain must turn in a pairing A or pairing B for bracketing/grouping purposes in certain events (lineup cards shall be sent.)
  • There will be 2 Captain’s Challenges involving 2 total participants (one from each pairing.) Captain’s Challenges include:
    • Darts (1 player) – diddle for the middle
    • Euchre (1 player ) – a game of Scat where each player has only two coins; no honor
    • *Golf (all involved players) – all players from each tied golf pairing must participate in a chipping challenge at Dookie Ranch.

*Will only be used to break ties between pairings after 18 holes of golf are complete.

Event Information

Golf:

  • Golf will take on a new format this year with hopes of speeding up play. All Dookies will be placed into one of two pairings by their team captain.  Each pairing will be assigned to play their round of golf with a pairing from another team.  The two assigned pairings will play all 18 holes together.  We will continue with our 2-man scramble format but will adopt the Stableford scoring system.  Each pairing will be given a copy of the Stableford scoring system to have on their golf cart.  It assigns point values to the holes based on your score against par.

IMPORTANT: BOTH PAIRINGS FROM THE FOURSOME MUST KEEP A SCORECARD FOR BOTH PAIRINGS AND TURN THEM IN.  THESE WILL BE USED TO CHECK ACCURACY OF THE SCORES.  The Stableford scoring system is as follows:

  • Double Eagle: 8 points
  • Eagle: 5 points
  • Birdie: 2 points
  • Par: 0 points
  • Bogey: -1 points
  • Double Bogey or more: -3 points

Euchre:

  • There will be a Russian roulette style draw where each captain silently offers one pairing for the top half of a bracket and one pairing for the bottom half of a bracket.  A Captain’s Challenge would be used to have one individual player from each team play a game of Scat.  The winner of Scat sets the top half of the Euchre bracket and the second place Scat finisher sets the bottom half of the bracket. From there the brackets play out like typical Euchre tournaments with best of 3 in the winner’s bracket and best of 1 in the loser’s bracket.  All other Euchre rules used in year’s past would apply.

Note: No two pairings from the same team can meet each other in the first round of the winner’s bracket or first round of the loser’s bracket.

Darts:

  • There will be a Russian roulette style draw where each captain silently offers one pairing for the top half of a bracket and one pairing for the bottom half of a bracket.  A Captain’s Challenge would be used to have one individual player from each team diddle for the middle.  The diddle winner sets the pairings in the top half of the bracket and the second place diddler (is that a word?) sets the pairings in the bottom half of the bracket. From there the brackets play out like typical darts tournaments with best of 3 in the winner’s bracket and best of 1 in the loser’s bracket.  All other dart rules used in year’s past would apply.

Note:  No two pairings from the same team can meet each other in the first round of the winner’s bracket or first round of the loser’s bracket.

Horseshoes:

  • A round robin format with 11 point games in the round robin and 15 point games in the playoffs will be used.  Playoffs would be for teams seeded 1-4 based on round robin records, head-to-head competition, and point differentials.  Teams finishing 5-8 will be assigned 5th – 8th place accordingly.  All other horseshoe rules and tiebreakers used in year’s past would apply.

Croquet:

  • A round robin format with short/racetracks will be used in the round robin. A championship/long course will be set for the playoffs.  Playoffs would be for teams seeded 1-4 based on round robin records and any applicable tiebreakers.  Teams finishing 5-8 will be assigned 5th – 8th place accordingly.  Any two-way ties at the conclusion of round robin will be broken by head-to-head record during the round robin.  Any ties of 3 or more teams will be broken via head-to-head record of the involved teams during the round robin play.  If ties remain, one round of croquet will be used to decide appropriate places (i.e. order of finish in that round will place pairings appropriately.)  All other croquet rules used in year’s past would apply.

Bocce:

  • A round robin format with 11 point games in the round robin and 15 point games in the playoffs will be used. Playoffs would be for teams seeded 1-4 based on round robin records, head-to-head competition, and point differentials.  Teams finishing 5-8 will be assigned 5th – 8th place accordingly.
  • For those that have not played before, the rules of bocce (game play) are below.
    • The object of the game is to roll your bocce balls closer to the pallino (jack) ball than your opponent.
    • Two players per team = two balls per player
    • The game consists of several frames.
    • A frame starts with tossing the pallino by a team toward the opposite end of the playing court.
    • The frame is complete after the balls have been thrown and points awarded.
    • Balls are tossed or rolled underhand.
    • Whoever wins the horseshoe flip will begin by tossing the pallino into the playing area.
    • The pallino must be thrown past the center line.
    • If the pallino lands out of the designated area, the opposing team will throw the pallino into the playing area.
    • Once the pallino is in position, the first team throws their bocce ball.
    • Taking alternate turns, each team throws their balls toward the pallino to (A) get their ball closest to the pallino, (B) to move the pallino closer to their ball, or (C) move the opponent’s ball.
    • The winning team begins the next frame.
    • Frames are played alternately from one end of the court to the other.
    • Scoring:
      • In each frame, only one team scores.
      • One point is given for each bocce ball that is in bounds and is closer to the pallino than the opposing team’s bocce balls.
