IT’S OFFICIAL,
This is your invitation to partake in a simple little weekend tournament that decides the champions of the world, the Dookie VIII. That’s right folks, it’s Dookie time again. No more cliché’s, last year was great and this year will no doubt be greater. It always is.
First of all, congratulations to Marshall Mckallip and Gutty Diehm on winning the Dookie VII championship. They only needed to win two events to pull out one of the most closely contested Dookie’s yet. Marshall is a perennial contender, winning back-to-back championships for his third overall Dookie title. For Gutty, it’s his first ever championship. Dan Beiter becomes the first person to FOUR-peat in a single event, golf. Dan Beiter is still the all-time Dookie conqueror with a run of three titles in a row and four out of five overall. Dan slipped a bit last year though, finishing third.
The Disaster-Dookie award goes to the team of Junior and Joe Ruggieri, who bucked all the odds and finished dead last in FOUR of the six events!! Congratulations, guys, keep up the good work. We had FOUR first-time Dookie’s last year!! Congratulations to Ryan Junior-Dookie Wiles (finally called up from the J.V. squad), Tony Artascos (who, as I’ll explain later, has since become Webmaster-Dookie), Ronnie Collins (who by stature becomes Stumpy-Dookie-Deux, because Dan is already Stumpy-Dookie) and Rick (who I can’t think of a good name for, so I’ll just call him Tricky-Dicky-Dookie). Thank you all for joining in our fun, you were worthy Dookie’s.
Tony Artascos has brought the Dookie into the twenty-first century, finally. WE HAVE A WEBSITE!!!! Tony has taken a lot of his personal time and put a lot of valuable, fun, and interesting information on a website that he is personally hosting. Please, check it out. We will be putting announcements on it, especially as we get nearer to tournament time. Also, there are a ton of pictures on it from Dookie’s years past. If you wish to add any, contact Tony or myself and we’ll get your pictures on there as well. Last, I’d like to get a “who’s paid” list on the site as well. That way everyone will know who has paid and who has opened up their roster spots for a replacement. The site is a fun place to reminisce and also to dream about the coming years’ Dookie, so be sure and thank Tony when you get a chance. The website address is: http://home.comcast.net/~theskeez/
Dookie VIII July 2006
O.K., now, let’s look forward. The RSVP will remain in effect and will stay at the same amount that it was the last three years: $125.00. This will be due on MAY 15th. It can be given to Marshall, George, or Ryan. There is a solid list of 5 people who were Dookie’s in past tournaments and want back in, so please ensure your place by getting your money in as soon as possible. Dookie VIII will commence on Friday July 7th at 6:30pm- sharp. Just as last year it will be held at Wildlife lanes in Lower Burrell. There we will throw darts and bowl. We will keep the same format as the last two years. Few complaints were heard and the playing field seemed more level (as least it seemed that way aided by a few too many Yuenglings). As always, quarters will be provided for darts and both bowling and rental shoes will be paid for. Drinks and food are on you.
On Saturday July 8th, at 9:00am- sharp, we will simultaneously start horseshoes and croquet. Both will be set up earlier in the week, so feel free to come early and practice (and drink a morning wake-me-up). This is Dookie family day, so invite the wife and kid(s). The grill will be burning all day. Food- steak, chicken, hamburger, kielbasa, hot dogs, potatoes, macaroni salad, chips, pasta salad, etc. Drinks- beer, water, soda, huggies, etc …will all be provided. As always, if you wish to bring a signature dish, please do. The money you used to buy the ingredients will be refunded when you give me a receipt. It’s always nice to have different options when you’re filling your plate, so plan ahead and make a dish.
When those events are completed and night falls, we’ll retreat to the house to play cards. The first few rounds of euchre will be played on Saturday night, and the semis and finale will be completed on Sunday after golf. Feel free to bring a tent and stay the night in the field. It’s always nice to wind down sitting around the fire and you won’t have to drive home. Plus, you’ll already be at my house for golf the next morning.
Sunday morning means breakfast at my house. It is nice to have a full stomach to absorb all the alcohol consumed. Eggs, bacon, toast, krispy kreme’s and orange juice will be provided. We will again be playing at Oak Lake because of its proximity to my house. Green’s fees will be supplied, so just bring your clubs and hack away. The tee time will be announced on Friday, and again on Saturday. Most likely, it will be around 10 or 11am, so we’re not clogged up on the course with the Gunny Open (which is always on the same weekend as the Dookie). Plus, the more sleep we can sneak in, the better. After golf, we will retreat back to my house to cook the leftovers. We also have to finish off euchre. Last, we will present the trophies to the victors, and christen the Dookie VIII champions.
I wish you all the best and send in your RSVP by May 15th. Check out our website and leave a message on the message board!! I can’t wait to see you all on the second weekend in July.
You stay classy Dookie’s,
Sean Hare
