2008 Dookie Letter
Half a decade, and four years ago, our younger-selves brought forth on
this continent a new sporting event, conceived in intoxication and
dedicated to the proposition that sports are meant to be played with a
beer in one hand.
The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it
can never forget what our younger-selves did here. It is for us, the
Decader-Dookie’s, rather, to be dedicated to the unfinished work which
we previously so nobly advanced. That from our honored past we take
increased devotion to that cause for which we give one full weekend
every summer—that we here resolve that in those previous years Dookie’s,
we were not drunk in vein—and that a tournament of the beer, by the beer
and for the beer, shall not perish from this Earth.

My
fellow Dookie’s,
How amazing it is that our little tournament has lasted a cool decade.
We’ve come a long way from only 8 competitors and 3 events in our first
tournament to pewter mugs, personalized t-shirts and porterhouses. And
damn the snail-mail! We now get our invitation letters via our own
website. Not too shabby, especially for something that no one but us
thought would last.
Here are the changes for our 10th glorious year.
We welcome back some Dookie’s that missed last years tournament: Junior,
Ray Fortuna, Oakes and Hare. A big thanks to those who kept the Dookie-fires
warm, but it’s time for the Varsity squad to play as one, once again.
And we’ll be doing that on a new golf course (for the third year in a
row- thank you very much Gunny Open). This year we will be hacking at
Lenape golf course instead of Murrysville. It will no doubt be the best
track that the Dookie’s have ever used, but it’s a bit further away from
the Hare house. The plan is to try to stuff everybody into as few
vehicles as possible. That way we can “bond” on our way. And there
will be a couple of added features on Saturday. We will be getting a
guy to play some acoustic guitar as we finish up euchre and gather
‘round the campfire for some freedom-lovin’ fireworks (…just don’t tell
Johnny Law). So, bring a tent or a sleeping bag (or if you want, bring
a blanket and you can crash on the floor of the Hare’s livingroom). And
hopefully sometime soon, those elitist “Originals” will figure out what
they’re getting everyone to commemorate the Dookie Decade.
Streaks
There are some interesting trends continuing as well: Dan won his 5th
Championship! Not bad after only 9 years. He is 2 above his closest
competitors in that category. And Marshall caught back up to O’toole in
total points overall with 285 (that’s in 50 total events, which means
that they nearly average third place per event!). Rick has won back to
back dart events. Rorge pitched the best horseshoes for two years
running. Jeff has won his second consecutive, and third overall,
golfing event. O’toole has won euchre three years in a row and an
amazing 6 out of 9 overall! Marshall has won croquet two years running
and 5 of 8 overall (there was no croquet Anno Dookie One). Let’s all
try and put a stop to those winning ways and hopefully start one of our
own.
Itinerary
Other than that, you know how it goes. We show up at Wildlife Lanes at
6:30pm on Friday July 11th for Bowling then Darts. Saturday
starts early at the Hare household. Be there for breakfast at 9 because
Horseshoes & Croquet start at 9:30 SHARP! Our tee time is 10am Sunday
morning at Lenape country club.
The Dookie X Conquerors will be crowned the evening of July 14th
Take your seat at the table
As we discussed, the RSVP is $200. It is due by May 31, 2008. At least
5 people have already paid in full (as of the end of April). There are
MANY subs that would love a chance to get back in. Don’t miss out on
our 10th year anniversary. Reserve your spot NOW!!
Looking to
vent 2 years of pent-up Dookie frustration,
Pudge-Duke
