The 2009 Dookie Letter

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more

Smell the air, lads.  Summer sets upon us soon.  Sunshine sizzling our skin, smiling salutations & reminiscing, swilling beer, stuffing our (T-bone) steak-holes and being soaked in youth for just one more season.

This is our chance.  A chance to forgive and to live.  To cast our everyday lives aside for just one weekend.  Our yearly grounding that puts everything in perspective.  An annual bathing (in beer, so to speak) that declares our innocence to the sins of fruition.  Shouting “we’re not dead yet” from a mountaintop the only way a Dookie knows how to: by throwing a kick-ass weekend-long drink-fest and disguising it as sport.

We lucky few know that the heart of Summer holds something near and dear to all of our hearts, the Dookie Tournament.  First off, congratulations are in order to last year’s Dookie Champ’s Danny Beiter and Ryan Wiles (Junior).  Danny, like our beloved Still-ers, has 6 Dookie Championships now and for Junior, it was his first.  I’m sure we all wish you the best of luck this year.

Now, to Dookie trends: Marshall has the lead in overall points (320) with O’toole only one point behind him, though Danny is very close behind them both (315).  And speaking of O’toole, he has won euchre 4 times in a row and an amazing 7 out of 10 overall!!  Also, Rorge has won horseshoes 3 years in a row and Danny has won bowling twice.

This year’s version of the Dookie won’t differ much from years past, though sadly it will lack the pageantry of last years’ Dookie Decade celebration.  Once again, the festivities will begin at Wildlife Lanes at 6:30pm.  We’ll draw for partners then bowl and throw darts.  Saturday will begin at 9:30am at the Hare household.  As usual, we will throw horseshoes and play croquet.  Good times and great food will be had by all.  In the evening, we will play a few rounds of euchre and throw gratuitous amounts of wood on a bonfire.  Please bring your tent (or even just a blanket to sleep on the living room floor).  Sunday’s tee-time will be 10:30am and we will be golfing at Lenape Heights Golf Club.  After golf, we will return to the Hare house to finish euchre (eat some leftovers) and crown the Dookie 2009 Champions.

The only changes of note will be that we are going to have a Dookie 2009 t-shirt for everyone and that we are no longer having the keg and tap system for beer.  We are going to buy cans.  This will mean less hassle with the co2 and bulky cooler, a better variety (we can buy different beer), and we can bring beer with us wherever we go (bowling alley, golf course, hell).

The RSVP will be $150 and is due by May 15, 2009.

Please e-mail via the website:

1. Your intention to participate in Dookie XI

2. Your top two choices for beer

3. Your t-shirt size.

Here’s hoping that we don’t suck at just enough of the events that we let Danny Beiter win yet another Dookie title.  Good luck and better Dookie-ing to all,
